We don’t know about you, but we’re already tired of all the tweets and articles about SXSW, and the festival hasn’t even really gotten going yet. We’re going to try to keep the SXSW coverage to a minimum here.
Stuff to read:
• the Washington CityPaper has a lengthy article about the Enterprise Jazz Club‘s strange legal saga.
• DC’s Jay Bulger won the grand jury prize in the documentary category at SXSW for his film Beware of Mr. Baker, about Cream/Blind Faith drummer Ginger Baker [Washington Post]. Here’s a profile on Bulger and how he weaseled his way into Baker’s life from the Post a few weeks ago.
• You’re not at SXSW but you’re still rooting for the local bands: David Malitz talks about why Hume, Bluebrain, Nadastrom, and Oddisee should get the biggest buzz of the local acts at the festival this year [Washington Post].
• We’re glad you’re still here: There were no layoffs at the Washington CityPaper yesterday, but unfortunately, employees are all taking a 5% pay cut [DCist].
• Apparently concert poster analysis is becoming a daily thing at the Washington CityPaper. Yesterday they featured U Street Music Hall‘s minimalism. The day before, it was Windian Records‘ possible racism. Oh, and by the way, the CityPaper alerted us yesterday that Windian now has a new poster design. (What art will the CP feature today?!)
• Interview: the show was last night, but you can still read Michael J. West’s chat with drummer Andrew Cyrille [Washington CityPaper].
• Video: Arlington reggae group SOJA made their late-night debut Monday night on The Tonight Show, and ARLnow has the video.
• Concert guides: the Washington CityPaper’s This Week in Jazz. TBD tells you to keep it green this St Patty’s Day weekend.
• DC writer Marc Masters and NC writer Grayson Currin have published their latest column The Out Door [Pitchfork]. This installment touches on how collaborations cross borders.
• Live review: Charles T Downey on the Takacs Quartet at the Kennedy Center [Washington Post].
