Ticket giveaway: Father John Misty at the 9:30 Club, Wednesday, 10/23/13

Father John Misty is coming to the 9:30 Club this Wednesday night, and ShowlistDC is giving away a pair of tickets! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me why you want to see this show, and I’ll pick the winner at random (using random.org) on Wednesday (the day of the show) at NOON. Be sure to use a valid email address when you enter, so I can contact you if you win (and don’t worry: your email address won’t be posted publicly when you comment on this entry and won’t be added to any sort of mailing list). If you’re a hotmail user, please add showlistdc@gmail.com to your address book or no-spam list, as other hotmail users have had problems with emails from us not getting through. Also note that since the show is on Wednesday night, we’ll ask winners to respond by COB on Wednesday, so make sure you’re checking your email regularly!

Joshua Tillman, aka J. Tillman, aka Father John Misty first gained recognition as the drummer for Fleet Foxes, but he’s had quite a prolific solo career as well: he was recording solo albums and opening for Damien Jurado in the pacific NW long before he was asked to join the Fleet Foxes lineup. He signed with Sub Pop and last year released the fantastic Fear Fun, so expect to hear some of those songs live at this show. Father John Misty has sold out several shows in DC over the last two years– including a 9:30 club show earlier this year– so for those that have missed his previous shows (or know how great they were), this is a good second chance to see him! FJM has made an interesting choice, too: rather than having an opening band, the first act at this show is comedian Kate Berlant.

We’ve put some videos at the bottom of this post, so check those out and let us know why you want to see this show. Did you miss the last few Father John Misty shows? Are you curious to see what happens when a comedian is thrown on to an indie-rock show? Are you a Fleet Foxes fan that’s curious about Tillman’s solo project? Or are you just looking for an excuse to get out of the house on a Wednesday night? Whatever your reason, it should be a great show, so leave a comment below to enter to win the free tickets!

Ticket giveaway: the Dismemberment Plan at the 9:30 Club, Sunday 10/20/13

the Dismemberment Plan is coming to the 9:30 Club this weekend for TWO SHOWS(!), and ShowlistDC is giving away a pair of tickets to the Sunday 10/20 show with Paint Branch! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me why you want to see the D-Plan live, and I’ll pick the winner at random (using random.org) on Friday, 18 October at NOON. Be sure to use a valid email address when you enter, so I can contact you if you win (and don’t worry: your email address won’t be posted publicly when you comment on this entry and won’t be added to any sort of mailing list). Also note that since the show is this weekend, we’ll ask winners to respond by COB on Friday, so make sure you’re checking your email regularly!

the Dismemberment Plan is a DC indie-rock band that formed in the early 90s and released four albums before breaking up in 2003…..and then, surprisingly, they reunited in 2011 and just released a new album, Uncanney Valley this week! There’s been lots written about the reunion– check out some recent articles by NPR, the City Paper, Metro.us, and, uh, Wired. They’re pretty legendary in DC music lore, and we’ve put some videos from the band’s history at the bottom of this post, so check those out and let us know why you want to see this show. Did you ever get to see them “back in the day”? Did you miss their handful of reunion shows in the past few years? Or are you just hankering to see their new material played live? Or, maybe you really dig opening act Paint Branch and want to see them on the big stage! Whatever your reason, it should be a great show, so leave a comment below to enter to win the free tickets!

Remember that the D-Plan are playing TWO 9:30 Club shows this week (they’re also playing on Saturday, 10/19 with Deleted Scenes), so if you can’t make it to the Sunday show that we’re giving tickets away to, you’ve got another chance to catch them!
