ShowlistDC Music Notes: Wednesday 02-08-12

Things to read:
• There’s a new performance space in the Madison Terrace Cooperative, reports local neighborhood blog The Brightwoodian. The Back Alley Theater space, located at 1365 Kennedy St NW, has a rich history (dating back to its origins in Mt Pleasant in the 1960s) and a nice starting schedule including its opening performance on February 16th.
• In a band? Want to do some recording? Hays Holladay just might record your song for free, says the Washington CityPaper, before he closes Iguazu Sound (in Arlington) for good. Check the article for details about what Holladay is looking for (and how to get in touch).
• Heavy Uber Alles brings you six heavy tunes every Tuesday.
• Album review: Allison Stewart on Van Halen‘s A Different Kind of Truth (at Verizon Center on March 28) [Washington Post].
• Live reviews: David Malitz on Thurston Moore at the Black Cat [Washington Post]. Sarah Godfrey on Theophilus London at the 9:30 Club [Washington Post]. Leah Henry on Kathleen Edwards and Hannah Georgas at the 9:30 Club [the Vinyl District].
