Ticket Giveaway: Courtney Love at the Fillmore, Saturday, 22 June 2013

Courtney Love is coming to the Fillmore Silver Spring on Saturday, 22 June, and ShowlistDC is giving away a pair of tickets!

Now, you may remember that Love’s last area appearance with her band Hole in 2010 was quite the trainwreck (seriously, if you haven’t heard the story, go read the linked review, by David Malitz for the Washington Post)– and that’s really not that unusual for Courtney Love. So, to win this pair of tickets to her show at the Fillmore, all you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me the worst concert you’ve ever seen, and I’ll pick the winner at random (using random.org) on Thursday, 6 June at midnight Eastern. Be sure to use a valid email address when you enter, so I can contact you if you win (and don’t worry: your email address won’t be posted publicly when you comment on this entry and won’t be added to any sort of mailing list). If you’re a hotmail user, please add showlistdc@gmail.com to your address book or no-spam list, as other hotmail users have had problems with emails from us not getting through. Also note that we ask winners to respond within 24 hours, or else we have to pick another winner, so make sure to check your email regularly!

I usually like to give a little background on the artists that I do giveaways for, but Courtney Love really needs no introduction. After a brief stint in Faith No More (?!), she founded Hole in 1989 and released her first solo album America’s Sweetheart in 2004. She recently contributed guest vocals to the latest Fall Out Boy album (there’s a linked video below), and she allegedly has some new solo tunes this year, so you might get a sneak peek of those at this show– if she makes it that far. If you’d like to see the trainwreck unfolding in real time, follow Love on twitter at @courtney.

The opening band is called Starred, which is a duo whose music you can hear on their Soundcloud page. Their tumblr page seems to be just as scatterbrained as Courtney Love’s internet musings, so this concert should be quite the entertaining double-header.

Hey, if you’re new to ShowlistDC and wondering what this site is all about, check out our extensive calendar of upcoming events in the greater DC area (including Northern VA and Baltimore) and our concert recommendations. You can also follow us on twitter @showlistdc or like us on Facebook!

If you come across this post after the contest has closed, or if you’re not the lucky winner, then you can pick up tickets for $29, plus service fees ($8), via concerts.livenation.com.

The contest is now closed and the winner has been notified.

  1. i’ve actually never had a worst concert experience. i’m kind of looking to courtney to change that for me. i’ve been to shows where i haven’t been crazy about the music, but as far as a complete train wreck…i can’t say i’ve seen one. court, don’t fail me now!

  2. Worst show I ever went to was Cyndi Lauper at the Marque Theatre in Tempe, AZ. She was a complete diva, screwed up her into, and was just rude. Didnt even stay for the set.

  3. worst concert ever for me was – none – by the headliner. Have had many warmup acts for The Pretenders suck…. The Almighty Senators…Chrissie loves them…I love Chrissie, but give me a break. Chrissie by the way, when you take her picture, is 50/50 on stopping the show to swear at the unsuspecting offender….she has done that countless times that I have seen…always amusing.

  4. Vampires Everywhere! Wasted 30 minutes of life watching “vampires” spit and scream in my face.

  5. Madonna MDNA tour.. The concert was good but waiting for 3 hours after the ticketed time for her to show up ruined it for me.

  6. The Residents, “The Bunny Boy” wasn’t necessarily the worst, it was just terrifying.

  7. goo goo dolls/sugar ray @ merriweather. i think 98, got a dwi leaving by the wonderful howard co police. worst experience ever, but the bands wern’t too bad.

  8. Metallica at the first show of one of their tours outside of Buffalo.
Dokken was the opening act. The venue was completely flat and had a fenced-in lawn area behind the seated area Part way through Dokken’s set the people in the back of the seated area began to stand on the chairs to get a better view. This obstructed the views of those in the lawn area. For awhile the people in the back were yelling. Then they started to tear down the fence. When it came down the crowd rushed forward.

Because the seats were basically fold up chairs tied up with zip ties they were flimsy. So people were falling off as they were taking cover. Dokken saw this going on and broke into “Mother” It was simultaneously terrifying and awesome.

Then Metallica took the stage. Kirk Hammet’s guitar went out part way through the 1st song. They never got it working again. So the entire show you’d see him switch guitars, try to play, talk to some of the techs then try to play again, a different guitar…etc.

A different concert at the same venue had Stone Temple Pilots followed by the Butthole Surfers. They had recently remodeled the venue and put a hill in the lawn area. They covered the hill with fresh sod. The crowd then proceeded to rip up the sod and toss it around like Frisbees. When a big chunk ended up on stage Scott Weiland put it on like a wig. Actually, this was pretty awesome.

  9. t was actually the flobots show last week – it was rained out and the club was freezing. The performances were grate but. so. cold.

  10. I went to an icona pop show for my sisters birthday and it turned out to be ” a dj set.” The girl behind me was on heavy drugs and the guy next to me was projectile vomiting. I don’t really like the Swedish house music they were spinning either haha. I love Courtney love

    • Congratulations; you’re the winner of the giveaway! Please check your email for more information!

  11. Deer Tick with Virgin Forest in 2011. I have seen Deer Tick many times and they are usually great, but they were just off (too drunk) this night. Also Virgin Forest was one of the worst bands I have ever seen. Horrid band… Looking forward to Courtney to set the bar even lower than that night in 2011!!!

  12. ha, the worst concert I ever went to might actually have been when Courtney Love performed at 9:30 club upon the release of “Nobody’s Daughter.” I went to see her at the Terminal in NYC earlier that year as the two day run were the only dates announced on the tour so far. She was incredible in New York, I talked her up to all my friends and got all these people to go with me to the DC show. Well, Ms. Love was an hour and a half late when she finally arrived, most definitely coked out of her mind and talking a mile a minute about how she got tied up with her “Senator friend”. She then proceeds to forget how to play 75% of her set and says things like, “I only know three chords, it’s got to be one of these three” … she also decides to play songs her band has clearly not learned or rehearsed at random and they struggle to jump in half way through the songs. Most of the audience is saying things like “what is this, Courtney Love’s band practice?” or simply just walking out. I think the evening ended by her collecting underwear on stage or something. She was a disaster. But a beautiful disaster and I love her and am dying to see her again!
