Ticket Giveaway: Junip at the 9:30 Club, Saturday, 15 June 2013

Junip is coming to the 9:30 Club on Saturday, 15 June (that’s this Saturday!), and ShowlistDC is giving away a pair of tickets! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me what you’d be doing this Saturday if you don’t go to the show, and I’ll pick the winner at random (using random.org) on Thursday, 13 June at midnight Eastern. Be sure to use a valid email address when you enter, so I can contact you if you win (and don’t worry: your email address won’t be posted publicly when you comment on this entry and won’t be added to any sort of mailing list). If you’re a hotmail user, please add showlistdc@gmail.com to your address book or no-spam list, as other hotmail users have had problems with emails from us not getting through. Also note that we ask winners to respond within 24 hours, or else we have to pick another winner, so make sure to check your email regularly!

Junip is a Swedish folk/psychdedlic-rock band that’s fronted by singer-songwriter José González (vocals, guitar). The band also includes Elias Araya (drums) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, Moog). They’ve released a handful of EPs, but their first full-length album, Fields, came out in 2010. To make things a little confusing, the group made its second album self-titled, and Junip came out on April 23rd of this year. It’s been met with mostly positive reviews (you can read reviews from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and AllMusic), which is good news, since you can expect the band to play a lot of songs from that new album live. If you’re curious what they sound like, we’ve included a few videos from the new album at the bottom of this post.

In addition to Junip, there are two opening bands on this show: the Danish soul/electro duo Quadron and the London-based Barbarossa (which features members of José González’s live backing band). All in all, it’s going to be a great night of music (three bands from three different countries!), so take a moment to think about what else you’d be doing this Saturday night and let me know in the comments for your chance to go to this show! Update: Quadron will not be appearing at this show; they’ve been replaced by GEMS.

    • Congratulations; you’re the random winner! Please check your email for more information!

  1. If I don’t go to junip on Saturday ill probably just cry my eyes out because I love them so much. Jose Gonzalez is the man and I’d feel lost in every direction without him. Always. His music makes me feel like I’m walking lightly!!

  2. I’ll be pressing my own 12-inch, maxi-disco versions of my favorite Junip songs on colored vinyl. Who wants a copy of “Line of Fire” on a flaming-orange disc?

  3. If I’m not with Junip, I’m cramming for a Statistics midterm on Monday.

  4. Cooking various bits of meat on the grill. Save my vegan girlfriend from this, lol

  5. Most likely blacking out on whiskey somewhere in DC and not thinking about the dumb mistake I made by not buying Junip tickets.

  6. If I don’t go to the Junip concert, I’ll probably whittle a nicely sized tree branch into a piccolo, and then play the famous solo in the final repeat of the closing section of John Philip Sousa’s march “The Stars and Stripes Forever” until my neighbors attack me with fire or sharp objects.

  7. I couldn’t see them in madrid 2 years ago..Really want to see them! Please..

  8. Crying myself to sleep because I didnt get to see Junip (while blasting the Junip album so no one can hear me crying obviously). Either that, or ordering unhealthy amounts of Chinese food and eating my sad music feelings.
