Ticket Giveaway: Savages at the 9:30 Club, Tuesday, 10 September 2013

Savages are coming to the 9:30 Club on Tuesday, 10 September, and ShowlistDC is giving away a pair of tickets! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me why you want to see this show, and I’ll pick the winner at random (using random.org) on Thursday, 1 August at midnight Eastern. Be sure to use a valid email address when you enter, so I can contact you if you win (and don’t worry: your email address won’t be posted publicly when you comment on this entry and won’t be added to any sort of mailing list). If you’re a hotmail user, please add showlistdc@gmail.com to your address book or no-spam list, as other hotmail users have had problems with emails from us not getting through. Also note that we ask winners to respond within 24 hours, or else we have to pick another winner, so make sure to check your email regularly!

Savages are an all-female post-punk revival band from London that formed in 2011. Obviously influenced by Siouxsie & the Banshees, Savages’ first album Silence Yourself came out earlier this year to great critical acclaim, but the hype had already been building: they played a show in July at the Rock & Roll Hotel that sold out months in advance(!). You can read some reviews of that show here (DCist’s Francis Chung) and here (the Washington Post’s Aaron Leitko).

We’ve put some videos from the band’s debut album at the bottom of this post, so check those out and let us know why you want to see this show. Did you miss out on tickets to their Rock & Roll Hotel show? Did you make it out to that show and want to see them again? Do you love the album? Or do you just want to check out the show and see what all the hype is about? Whatever your reason, it should be a great show, so leave a comment below to enter to win the free tickets!

If you’re new to ShowlistDC and wondering what this site is all about, check out our extensive calendar of upcoming events in the greater DC area (including Northern VA and Baltimore) and our concert recommendations. You can also follow us on twitter @showlistdc or like us on Facebook!

If you come across this post after the contest has closed, or if you’re not the lucky winner, then you can pick up tickets for $20, plus service fees, via ticketfly.com.

The contest has now ended and the winner has been contacted. Thank you!

  1. I would love to see this show because Silence Yourself is one of the best albums of the year. I am a huge fan of the Birthday Party, Joy Division, Public Image Ltd, Siouxsie and the Banshees, etc., and I believe Savages are perfectly honoring their sound and spirit.

  2. I saw this act @rocknrollhotel and they were fantastic. They ripped through 9 of their 11-song lp ‘Silence Yourself’, plus A-side single ‘Flying to Berlin’ and another song ‘Give Me a Gun.’ This quartet epitomizes the tempest in a teapot metaphor as they take an audience through a journey from poise and control of skilled musicianship to a electrified cacophony of energy and sound. The only low point was opener Johnny Hostile, who is their producer and has a side project with Savages vox Jehnny Beth. I’d like to see them at 9:30 to see if they introduce any new material, and whether the booking agent matches them up with a better compliment of an opening act.

    • Congratulations, you’re the random winner! Check your email for more information.

  3. Because I have never seen them live but their album is one of my top favorite albums of the year or maybe ever!
